Guitar Setup
Setups are essential for all guitars, no matter how often you play. Over time, humidity, string tension, dust, and oils can leave your instrument in need of a little TLC.
I offer a comprehensive guitar setup service, which covers everything from a hardware inspection to fret polishing.
How much does a guitar setup cost? See my price list for details.
Fretwork
Have you noticed ongoing fret buzz or dead notes?
I can level and dress your frets for enhanced playability. I also offer fret polishing and replacement.
Please note that any major change to your guitar’s fret level will require a setup to make sure it’s in top playing condition.
Nut Replacement
A well-crafted and properly installed guitar nut is key to great playing.
Whether you have a plastic, graphite, or tusq nut, I can shape, fit, and install it, then fine-tune the string slots to achieve your desired action.
I’m happy to install pre-made guitar nuts or shape one from a blank.
Pickup Installation
The right pickups can make all the difference to your bass or guitar’s tone and performance.
Single-coil or Humbucker, active or passive, I can make sure you have the best pickup for your needs, wired and adjusted correctly.

I can also provide bespoke pickup covers on request. Please get in touch for more information.
Electronic Repairs
Something not quite right with your guitar’s functionality?
I can help identify the cause and repair or replace faulty electronics — whether you need a new pot or switch or your instrument requires grounding to fix that annoying hum.

FAQs
1 / Do you offer guitar collections?
Absolutely — if you can’t make it over to my guitar repair workshop, I’m happy to come and collect your instrument and drop it off again once it’s ready. Let me know that you’re looking for collection when you get in touch, and I’m sure we can arrange it.
2 / Which areas do your guitar repair services cover?
I carry out my luthier and guitar tech work in Cardiff but take on work from further afield. If you’re in need of collection and drop-off, I can cover Bristol and many parts of South Wales — please just get in touch to discuss the job.
3 / Do you have a minimum rate?
I have a bench rate of £35 for the first 30 minutes, with an additional £10 per extra 15 minutes. However, I prefer to work by fixed rates so will always offer a comprehensive quote so there are no surprises! Please see my price list for more details.
4 / Are there any guitar repairs you don’t take on?
While I’m happy to take on many electrical jobs, I don’t repair guitar amps. At this time, I’m also unable to offer full repaint or re-finishing services (however, I am happy to carry out spot finishing).
5 / Is a luthier the same as a guitar technician?
Luthiers and guitar technicians are not one and the same — although many people can be both! A guitar technician is a broad job role, and there isn’t really a single definition so the tasks covered really depend on the individual and their specialities. However, if you had to pin me down for an answer, I’d say that guitar technicians have the ability to maintain and repair guitars.
A luthier has the benefit of a skillset that enables them to build instruments on top of the services a guitar technician can offer.
6 / Do you repair other stringed instruments?
A lot of my work focuses on guitar and bass repairs, but I also have experience working on folk instruments like mandolins and bouzoukis.
